Health & Community Design Lab
We are British Columbia's preeminent research lab specializing in the interaction between land use, travel behaviour, air quality, and health. Originally founded in 2003 as the Active Transportation Collaboratory, we have been involved with some of the leading research on active transportation and the benefits it provides for our health, environment, and communities. We are led by Dr. Lawrence Frank, Professor at the Schools of Population and Public Health and Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia.
We are leading or otherwise involved in a number of projects:
- Walkability Index
- CHANGE: Changes in Health, Activity, and Nutrition over Geographic Environments
- NEWPATH: Neighourhood Environment in Waterloo Region: Patterns of Transportation and Health
- Active Transportation Benefits to Walkable Communities in British Columbia
- Promoting Physical Activity Through Healthy Community Design
